Fairly good Nutcracker
I took my 4-year-old niece and 14-year-old daughter to Gogol Bordello's Nutcracker. It was fairly good overall, not extraordinary. The party scene is a total snoozer, my niece said "when are they going to do the dancing?" About half way through, there had been very little dancing at that point. Some of the professional dancers seemed as if they were totally overdoing the Nutcracker, but they were very good. The children who performed were wonderful. It was very strange that they took bows at the end of the first act; my niece thought it was over! I have never seen this done in a ballet or any other live performance before. Another odd thing was that there was a Snow Queen rather than a Snow King. At the end of the performance, I just felt kind of disappointed. It could have been much better, in my opinion. If you really love the Nutcracker, though, it is worth seeing.
